Peaches

Nothing can beat the taste of a fresh, tree ripened peach. At Files Family Farm you can come experience the fresh goodness of real peaches for yourself.

We have almost 15 acres of peaches that produce during the summer. From the end of June to the first part of August you can get fresh Texas peaches that you will never get tired of eating.

We offer pick-your-own or pick-them-up at the farm. We also sell them at the Abilene Farmers Market in season. Click here for more info on the market, hours, etc.

We are not certified organic, but we do follow organic practices. Over the years we have seen the effects of dangerous chemicals and pesticides onĀ  wildlife and humans. This has made us very cautious about using potentially harmful products on our farm, for our safety and the safety of the wildlife. And of course, for the people who consume products produced by us.

So, Why Texas Peaches?

Because there is nothing like a fresh tree ripened peach from Texas! We grow our peaches for quality of taste. We do not irrigate our orchard which can mean less peaches sometimes, but causes the sugar content in our peaches to be much stronger. This means sweeter, fuller flavored peaches. We guarantee you will love our peaches!

What’s A Bushel?

Many people ask, “What is a bushel?” and ” How big is 1/2 a bushel?”

A 1/2 bushel is about the size of one tomato box. A full bushel is about 2 tomato boxes. It is roughly 40 lbs of peaches.

Varieties

We have Red Globe, Dixieland, Loring, Redskin, Rustin Red, and Bounty peaches in our orchard. These varieties ripen at different times throughout the month of July. All our peaches are sweet and juicy. We grow them for taste, not shipping so they all have a full, lip-smacking good flavor.

Freestone or Cling?

All our peaches are freestone, which means that the seed will separate from the fruit easily. This is esp. good for ease of handling peaches to be frozen or canned, or for making it easy to cut them up to snack on.
